It was a fun but tiring day today at our duty. I had two patients one suffering from an infection in the brain and the other was having gallstones.
I just did the usual thingamajigs at duty, got the vital signs (a.ka. Blood pressure, temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate), changed the linens, gave medications, documented the activity on the patient's chart. It was already becoming a routine for me, I became more and more efficient at doing the job every week.
Well, what made this day different are my patients. Truly heaven sent! One gave me an orange,a pack of skyflakes and a packet of Fita. I tried to refuse but they still insisted. Who was I to refuse such blessings?
The one mentioned above happened in the morning, I recieved another gift from my other patient at lunch time. This time, I was just about to monitor vital signs and they asked me if I could join them eat their lunch.
BTW, I was really hungry that time, it was past one and I still haven't taken my lunch break.
So there they insisted again, but of course I refused again by saying that I just ate my lunch. Sometimes nurses can be hypocrites.LOL Anyway, I just took the vital signs as fast as I could and before I could even grab my things, they already stuffed my hands with 5 bananas. "Sige tanggihan mo pa yan, mag tatampo na talaga kami", the relative said. I quipped, "Naku, nakakahiya naman po..." but deep inside I was like, "THANK YOU PO! Grabe saktong sakto di pa ako kumakain ng lunch!" I know its like being patay gutom but who am I again to refuse?

I'm just so happy that my patients apprieciate what I do to them.
